The 2021 Virginia Codes have been approved and will be published in the Virginia Register on December 18, 2023. The effective date of the 2021 Uniform Statewide Building Code, Statewide Fire Prevention Code, Industrialized Building Safety Regulations, and the Amusement Device Regulations is January 18, 2024. These regulations include adoption of the 2020 National Electrical Code^® (NEC).

Mandatory code change training for the 2021 codes is underway. The schedule is posted and available for registration here. This schedule is tentative and may change, as necessary, so please check the website for updates. In addition to the live classroom training, individuals may take advantage of self-paced online training provided through the Commonwealth of Virginia Learning Center (COVLC). Online programs will be available early 2024 and will be available on demand. The online presentations are offered as standalone presentations based on the Virginia Building Code Academy’s classroom curriculum.
