The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) published Electric Submeter System Commissioning (NEMA BS 31001-2021). This new standard describes the processes and documentation to be used in commissioning electricity submetering (ESM).
The scope of this document includes on-site verification of labeling, wiring, communications, and proper circuit assignments for accurate energy consumption measurement. It is intended to be the basis of a NEMA commissioning certification program.
"We hope that the program associated with BS 31001 would increase the acceptance of submetering as an energy management tool and reduce overall installation and follow-up costs for both submeter manufacturers and building owners or managers," said Marc Neufcourt, Industry Director, Building Systems, NEMA.
This standard is written for electrical installers, contractors, weights and measures inspectors, and regulators.
NEMA BS 31001-2021 is available on the NEMA website for $46.
