Manufacturers that sell products into seismically active zones need to be aware of requirements for product resilience and robustness and may also want to influence those regulations. The Seismic Council is the focal point of NEMA activities regarding the business and public policy opportunities associated with seismic qualification of electrical and medical imaging equipment for commercial building code applications.

The Council is working on a Standard for Seismic Certification of Nonstructural Electrical Subsystems by Shake-table Testing Independent of the Equipment Enclosure. The purpose of this test Standard is to establish minimum requirements for the seismic certification of electrical equipment subsystems by shake-table testing subsystems independent of the equipment enclosure they are contained in.
