National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) President and Chief Executive Officer Evan Gaddis was appointed August 2 to serve on the Federal Advisory Committee on Supply Chain Competitiveness. The committee will advise the Secretary of Commerce on the development and administration of programs and policies to expand the competitiveness of U.S. supply chains including programs and policies to expand U.S. exports of goods, services, and technology in accordance with applicable U.S. regulations. This work will strongly support efforts to expand U.S. exports of goods and services and create economic opportunities for American businesses for American workers.

The National Export Initiative (NEI) report to the president notes that “a globally competitive U.S. supply chain infrastructure is critical to the success of the NEI and to sustained American economic growth.” After hearing this announcement, Acting Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank stated her expectation that the committee will focus on specific, actionable, and measurable ways that the Department can respond to challenges of the existing infrastructure that is seen as inefficient and outdated.

“Our member companies compete in a global arena. Their products are manufactured using raw materials and components from suppliers all over the world,” said Mr. Gaddis. “A robust supply chain is critical to their success in supplying the world’s safest and most efficient and reliable products.”

NEMA is the association of electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers, founded in 1926 and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Its member companies manufacture a diverse set of products including power transmission and distribution equipment, lighting systems, factory automation and control systems, and medical diagnostic imaging systems. Worldwide annual sales of NEMA-scope products exceed $120 billion.
