NEMA Sponsors Reception for Congressional High Performance Buildings Week
NEMA kicked off Congressional High Performance Buildings Week on Tuesday with a reception to thank U.S. Representatives David McKinley (R-WV) and Peter Welch (D-VT) for assuming the co-chairmanship of the High Performance Buildings Congressional Caucus. The caucus was formed in 2008 to educate federal policymakers on the ways that buildings can help reduce energy waste while providing occupants with safe, sustainable, affordable, and aesthetically pleasing buildings to live and work in.
The reception featured remarks from Reps. McKinley and Welch, as well as the chairman of NEMA’s High Performance Buildings Council, Jim Pauley of Schneider Electric. Mr. Pauley thanked the Congressmen for setting an example for the rest of Congress on bipartisan cooperation, and underscored that increasing building performance is something on which both parties can agree. He noted that increasing the energy efficiency, sustainability, and safety of buildings should be a top priority of Congress.
Reps. McKinley and Welch recently introduced H.R. 1616, “The Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act of 2013,” the House counterpart to Sens. Shaheen (D-NH) and Portman (R-OH) bill, which NEMA has publicly endorsed.
NEMA is working closely with Congress and the Obama Administration to promote high performance buildings through the work of the NEMA High Performance Buildings Council, which was established to promote the adoption of high performance NEMA-scope products and systems that increase the energy efficiency, safety, resilience, sustainability, productivity, and security of federal, commercial, and multi-family residential buildings.
