NEMA Offers No Cost Webinar on Commercial Buildings Tax Deduction Provisions of Energy Policy Act 2005

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) is offering a free webinar on the Commercial Buildings Tax Deduction provision of Energy Policy Act of 2005. The one-hour webinar will be held at 11 a.m. EST on October 12, 2006, and be conducted by NEMA Director of Energy Infrastructure Ed Gray.

Topics covered will include: buildings that are eligible; systems that are eligible; window of opportunity allowed by the provision; IRS guidance issued so far; design requirements; and certification and inspections requirements.

Caterpillar Announces Plan to Build a New Wheel Loader Manufacturing Facility in China
Caterpillar recently signed an investment agreement with the Suzhou Industrial Park Administrative Committee (SIPAC) to build a new wheel loader manufacturing facility in the Suzhou Industrial Park in China’s Jiangsu province. 9/21/06

Solar Turbines Announces Long-Term Strategic Agreement with China National Offshore Oil Corporation
Executives from Caterpillar, Inc. subsidiary Solar Turbines and from China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) recently signed a long-term strategic agreement between the two companies. Under terms of the strategic agreement, Solar Turbines will be a CNOOC preferred aftermarket supplier for goods and services for Solar Gas Turbines equipment. 9/20/06

GE Focuses on Growth and Higher Returns with Sale of GE Advanced Materials Business to Apollo Management, L.P.
GE recently announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to sell GE Advanced Materials (Silicones & Quartz) to Apollo Management, L.P., a private investment firm in a deal valued at approximately $3.8 billion in cash and securities. 9/22/06

Schneider Electric Consolidates Its Worldwide Presence in British Standard Wiring Devices with the Acquisition of GET in the UK
Schneider Electric announced through its subsidiary, Schneider Electric UK Ltd, the terms of a proposal to acquire the issued and to be issued share capital of GET Group plc. This UK publicly quoted company offers wiring devices and other electrical products for the residential and buildings markets. 9/15/06

Leviton Acquires Fiber Connect
The Leviton Manufacturing Company, a producer of electrical and electronic wiring devices and manufacturer of voice and data solutions, recently announced its acquisition of Fiber Connect Incorporated, a Chicago-based provider of Data Center fiber optic solutions. 9/14/06

3M Acquires Credence Technologies Inc.
3M announced recently it has acquired Credence Technologies Inc., a Soquel, California-based provider of instruments and high-end monitoring equipment for electrostatic discharge control and electromagnetic compliance. 9/13/06
