The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced that Peter Tolsdorf has been appointed as NEMA General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. He will assume overall responsibility for the Association's legal compliance program, litigation, and internal NEMA policies and procedures.
Most recently a vice president with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), Tolsdorf is a seasoned legal counsel with expertise in promoting manufacturing industry objectives on energy, environmental issues, product liability, labor and employment law, workforce challenges, intellectual property, corporate governance, and trade issues.
"Peter's legal career and accomplishments in cognate industries bring a wealth of knowledge to our senior leadership team," said NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff. "We look forward to Peter leading the strategic counsel for our legal and corporate governance practices."
Tolsdorf previously led the litigation program at NAM to represent manufacturers' interests in the courts. He simultaneously served as general counsel of the Manufacturing Institute, the public charity affiliate of the NAM that focuses on workforce development. Before the NAM, he served as senior counsel at the American Petroleum Institute, where he litigated energy issues on behalf of the oil and natural gas industry. Tolsdorf also previously served as an attorney at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where he litigated energy generation and transmission matters, and at major international law firms Bingham McCutchen and McDermott Will & Emery.
