First Quarter 2021 HID Lamp Indexes Continue to Decline
NEMA’s shipment index for high intensity discharge (HID) lamps posted a year-over-year decline in shipments in 1Q 2021 compared to 1Q 2020 with metal halide posting a 12.1 percent decline, sodium vapor a 19.1 percent decline and mercury vapor a 42.2 percent decline. Quarter-over-quarter shipments were mixed with mercury shipments decreasing 22.7 percent while sodium vapor and metal halide shipments increased 15.8 percent and 12.1 percent, respectively.
Metal halide lamps shipments accounted for 55.9 percent of the HID market in 1Q 2021, while sodium halide and mercury vapor shipments accounted for 41.3 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively.
