November 4 Wisconsin

State of Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services announced the adoption of the 2011 National Electrical Code (NEC) with WI specific amendments with an effective date of 12/1/13.

During the early stages of reviewing the 2011 NEC the State of Wisconsin was targeting the deletion of AFCI & GFCI technologies from the NEC. However, during this time the Governor’s office received strong opposition from those in the Fire and Electrical communities urging them to change course from minimizing electrical safety in Wisconsin; which the Governor’s office responded by reversing direction.

Adoption of the 2011 NEC will provide the electrical industry with access to improved electrical safety technologies, advancement of new wiring methods and practices that are available for today's built environment. This continued action will help foster economic growth in communities throughout the great State of Wisconsin.
