27 May Virginia

State of Virginia

The Virginia Board of Housing and Community Development held a meeting on May 19, 2014. Mr. Anthony Clatterbuck, Chairman of the Codes and Standards Committee, reported on the morning meeting of the Committee. Mr. Clatterbuck reported that the Committee discussed problems and concerns with provisions on fire safety of floors contained in the 2012 International Residential Code that had been adopted by reference into the final Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC). Following a discussion of the building and enforcement issues, a motion was made to suspend and readopt the USBC and remove the adoption by reference of the International Residential Code Section R501.3 from the final USBC and for the readopted regulation to be scheduled to become effective on July 14, 2014. The motion was seconded and unanimously approved.
