The California Building Standards Commission is accepting public comment on proposed building standards during their 2019 Intervening Code Adoption Cycle.  The Intervening Cycle allows for standards that are of an emergency or urgent nature to be adopted mid-cycle between the normal 3-year code adoption process.  These changes are proposed by six California state agencies and can be found in the "Initial Express Terms" link under the "Green, PEME Ad Hoc Code Advisory Committee" heading.  Some of the proposed changes include:

  • Allowable uses of NM cable in Type IV Tall Wood Buildings in Title 24, Part 3 Electrical Code
  • Electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and EV-ready requirements in Title 24, Part 11 CalGreen
  • Light pollution reduction in Title 24, Part 11 CalGreen

The 45-day comment period will close on May 26, 2020.  If adopted, these standards will go into effect on July 1, 2021.
