Shipments of industrial controls products and systems, as measured in NEMA’s Primary Industrial Controls index, increased 0.2 percent on a quarterly basis (q/q) during the first quarter of 2014. The index registered a larger gain of 1.9 percent compared to the same period a year ago. A more comprehensive measure of demand, NEMA’s Primary Industrial Controls and Adjustable Speed Drives Index, showed mixed results during the quarter. The index decreased by 2.3 percent (q/q), while year-over-year performance posted a gain of 1.3 percent.
NEMA is the association of electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers, founded in 1926 and headquartered in Rosslyn, Virginia. Nearly 400 members strong, its companies manufacture a diverse set of products including power transmission and distribution equipment, lighting systems, factory automation and control systems, and medical imaging and radiation therapy systems. Total U.S. shipments for electroindustry products exceed $100 billion annually.
