General Cable announced that it has been awarded a contract by Basin Electric Power Cooperative (Basin Electric), one of the largest electric generation and transmission (G&T) cooperatives in the United States, to address the need for additional electric transmission capacity in northwestern North Dakota. In the contract valued at $10 million, General Cable will supply overhead conductor for a new 345 kV transmission line running from the Antelope Valley Station to substations near Grassy Butte and Williston, ending at the Neset substation near Tioga.
The Antelope Valley Station project will consist of approximately 200 miles of single circuit 345 kV and double circuit 345/115 kV transmission lines that are intended to increase capacity and enhance reliability and system stability for the region. General Cable's 2312 kcmil Thrasher ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) is the overhead conductor of choice for the project. TransPowr® ACSR overhead conductors are engineered to provide long-term performance and reliability in the difficult operating conditions which exist in the north central United States.
"We are excited that Basin Electric selected General Cable to supply conductor for the Antelope Valley Station to Neset transmission project," said Joshua Katzman, Vice President of Sales, General Cable Electric Utility Products.
