NEMA Lighting System Index Shows Little Change in 2017

The lighting system shipment index showed little change in 4Q 2017 when compared to the previous year and quarter. In 4Q 2017 shipments declined 0.5 percent compared to 3Q 2017 and 0.4 percent when compared to 4Q 2016. Fixtures, HID ballasts and LED replacement lamps posted quarter-over-quarter increases while the remaining components declined during the same period. In a year-over-year comparison emergency lighting, fixtures, LED drivers, and lighting controls posted increases, but were offset by decreases in the remaining components.

The expanded Lighting Systems Shipments Index, a measure of demand for lighting equipment, now includes the following domestically manufactured products: HID ballasts, LED drivers, lighting controls, and LED replacement lamps were added to the mix which already included fixtures, emergency lighting, florescent ballasts, and large lamps. Miniature lamps which had been included in the former index are not included in this index. The base year for the new index is 2015
