Linear Fluorescent Lamp Indexes Continue Year-Over-Year Decline in Fourth Quarter 2017 while T-LED Market Penetration Increases

The linear fluorescent lamp index continued a downward trend, T5, T8, and T12 lamps all posted a year-over-year decrease for 4Q 2017, compared to 4Q 2016, of 17.1 percent, 19.8 percent, and 31.0 percent, respectively. The index showed mixed results for quarter-over-quarter comparisons with T5 posting a small 0.8 percent increase in Q4 2017 compared to Q3 2017. T8 and T12 continued a quarter-over-quarter trend of decreasing by declining 4.2 and 15.3 percent, respectively.

NEMA/BIS has added T-LED shipments to the market penetration graph to begin tracking their impact on the market. When more historical data is available T-LED shipments will be added to the index. In 4Q 2017 T-LEDs accounted for 23.1 percent of the florescent lamp shipments.  T8 lamps accounted for 57.1 percent of 4Q2017 shipments while T5 and T12 lamps claimed 8.5 and 11.4 percent, respectively.
