HID Lamp Indexes Decline in Fourth Quarter 2017 Compared to Fourth Quarter 2016


NEMA’s shipment index for high intensity discharge (HID) lamps posted a year-over-year decline in shipments in 4Q 2017 compared to 4Q 2016 with mercury vapor posting an 18.4 percent decline, metal halide a 17.6 percent decline, and sodium vapor a 15.2 percent decline. Quarter-over-quarter results were mixed with metal halide increasing 9.2 percent and sodium vapor and mercury vapor posting decreases of 8.2 percent and 10.5 percent, respectively, in 4Q 2017 compared to 3Q 2017.

Metal halide lamps accounted for 64.9 percent of the HID market in 4Q 2017, while sodium vapor and mercury vapor accounted for 31.5 percent and 3.5 percent, respectively.
