First Quarter 2019 HID Lamp Indexes Increase Compared to Last Quarter but Decline in Year-Over-Year Comparison


NEMA’s shipment index for high intensity discharge (HID) lamps posted a year-over-year decline in shipments in 1Q 2019 compared to 1Q 2018 with metal halide posting an 18.8 percent decline, sodium vapor a 1.4 percent decline and mercury vapor a 12.2 percent decline. Quarter-over-quarter shipments increased with metal halide increasing 7.1 percent, sodium vapor increasing 20.2 percent and mercury increasing 11.3 percent in 1Q 2019 compared to 4Q 2018.

Metal halide lamps accounted for 58.6 percent of the HID market in 1Q 2019, while sodium vapor and mercury vapor accounted for 37.7 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively.
