Dave Kendall Recognized for Mentorship and Technical Expertise

Despite his extensive involvement in market expansion based on the development of codes and Standards with first Thomas & Betts and subsequently with ABB, Dave Kendall emphasized his role as mentor as his primary contribution to the electroindustry when he accepted his award.
He has participated with both union (NECA) and non-union contractors (IEC) and the apprentice training programs at local and national levels and has conducted educational training for the development of Thomas & Betts products pertaining to electrical inspectors (IAEI) and electrical contractors (NECA and IEC).
People skills notwithstanding, Mr. Kendall's technical commitments to ABB, NEMA, and the industry are legendary. He represents ABB on the NEMA Codes and Standards Committee and other committees including government affairs and other political entities.
He represents ABB on the
National Electrical Code® (NEC) Panel 8 and provided technical sales support, including interpretation of the NEC, to regional sales managers, sales representatives, distributors, contractors, OEMs, and end users. He is also active in Underwriters Laboratories' (UL) policy committees, industry advisory council, and panels.
Mr. Kendall has supervised activities with UL and CSA including projects, listings, and files. He has served on the Workforce Investment Network board of directors and is a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, ASTM International, UL Standards technical panels, CSA Subcommittee C22.2, and the National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee Residential Working Group, and various workshops on supervisory competence, statistical process control, ISO 9000 quality system documentation, quality audits for improved performance, supplier certification processes, and leadership.
Alan Manche Honored for Dedication to Electroindustry
Vice President, External Affairs, Schneider Electric
As vice president of external affairs for Schneider Electric, Kite & Key Award winner Alan Manche is responsible for managing company activities related to product Standards and installation codes. His dedication to the industry, however, goes far beyond that.
He has served as a product design engineer, product certification engineer, and industry standards manager for switches, panelboards, busway, switchgear, transfer equipment, generators, transformers, motor control, lighting systems, lighting control, surge protection, electrical connectors, and metering. Mr. Manche's product design, certification, and industry standards background afforded him many hours testing product performance characteristics and product certification compliance.
Mr. Manche has served as chair, vice-chair, and co-chair of several NEMA Sections and Committees, including the Task Force on State Code Adoptions, Task Force on Water and Fire Damaged Equipment, Section Affairs Policy, Standards and Conformity Assessment Committee, Codes & Standards, Health Care Facility Equipment, Low Voltage Distribution Equipment, and Surge Protection Device Section.
He also serves on a number of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) technical committees, including Code-Making Panels 10 and 2 for NFPA 70
National Electrical Code® (NEC), the NEC Correlating Committee, and the Board of Trustees for the Fire Protection Research Foundation. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Electrical Safety Foundation International.
Mr. Manche represents Schneider Electric with the electrical inspector community through the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, supporting the inspectors at state and regional meetings with educational programs on electrical equipment and installation in accordance with the NEC. He has also supported NFPA educational efforts as an instructor for NFPA seminars on the NEC, NFPA 79, and NFPA 70E.
He also represents Schneider Electric at state government hearings for the adoption of electrical installation codes and Standards like the NEC, International Residential Code, and industrial machinery.
