As part of its Global Mission, NEMA opened its regional office in Mexico City to facilitate members’ efforts to gain and maintain market access in Mexico and Central America.

  Objectives:

• Technical product standards and installation codes that ensure that products made in Mexico and the U.S. can safely be used by customers in both countries.
• Conformity assessment processes that treat all manufacturers in a fair and equal manner.
• Inspection of all electrical installations to ensure compliance with NOM-001-SEDE requirements.
• A trade environment that ensures equivalent, competitive access to markets through the elimination of barriers to trade.

   Activities:

• Collaborate with CANAME according to the memorandum of Understanding signed in November 1999, which outlines collaborative activities in the area of codes and standards, trade facilitation, and market-related matters.
• Work with ANCE staff and its technical committees to ensure that the proper processes are used to develop standards that meet the needs of customers in Mexico and the U.S.
• Organize and conduct technical seminars to provide information on a regular basis about NEMA members’ products.
• Collaborate with interested chambers, professional organizations, and technical societies to ensure that NEMA projects provide value.
