Assists the federal government, state governments, electric utilities, and manufacturers of luminaires in performing a standardized test method for determining the luminaire efficacy rating of incandescent, compact fluorescent, and low-wattage high intensity discharge downlight luminaries. The LER metric defined by the standard provides the electroindustry with a consistent method for reporting the energy efficiency of luminaires, making it easy for the end user to compare the energy efficiency (LER values) of different makes and models within a given product category. The LER metric can lead to the selection of the most energy efficient lighting systems; which meet the end user's additional requirements.
