Technical Activities

The technical activities of the NEMA 5FB.2 Section are carried out by the 5FB.2 Technical Committee. The primary technical focus for the foreseeable future will be to prepare and promote the adoption of the IEC 62275 standard, Cable ties for electrical installations, as an American National Standard and a regionally harmonized standard. This process will be accomplished through a coordinated effort under the auspices of the Council for Harmonization of Electrotechnical Standards of the Nations of the Americas (CANENA), THSC23A Cable ties.

UPDATE!! A first draft of the IEC-adopted standard for use in North America has been completed and is under preliminary technical review within UL, CSA, ANCE and INTECO (Costa Rica).  The THSC aims to achieve consensus on the standard by the end of 2008 and to have the standards organizations publish in early 2009.

NEMA members are committed to promoting the global adoption of IEC 62275 and to actively participating in the relevant codes and standards activities that pertain to the intended safe use of our products.

The 5FB.2 Technical Committee will develop practical information including best-practice selection and installation guidelines and clear communication on technical aspects and frequently asked questions related to standard classifications for cable ties and their associated fixing devices.
