(ROSSLYN, Va.)—The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) held its Board of Governors (BOG) quarterly meeting on July 14 in Washington, D.C., demonstrating industry leadership in approving nearly one million dollars to further NEMA’s strategic direction.

“Through these strategic initiatives, NEMA will continue its success in addressing issues that advance the Board of Governor’s strategy to make NEMA the pacesetting champions of the industry,” said NEMA BOG Chairman David FitzGibbon.

The NEMA Board of Governors will fund the following strategic initiatives for 2012:

  • Public Policy Portal (P3)—P3 is designed to provide easy access to public policy activity affecting NEMA members and their markets on a global basis. A primary goal of P3 is to provide relevant, valuable information to NEMA members in a single database.

  • Smart Grid—The mission of the NEMA Smart Grid program is to promote the adoption of Smart Grid, including the development of interoperability standards that support widespread use of member technologies, and promotion of a positive regulatory and financial environment for utilities to purchase Smart Grid products and systems.

  • High Performance Buildings—Since 2009, NEMA’s High Performance Buildings Council has been at the forefront of expanding the market for existing electroindustry technologies in the built environment. It continues to be the one place in the electroindustry that brings together coordinated efforts in government relations, codes and standards, and industry marketing focused on a systems and total energy efficiency approach that crosses traditional product sections and industry boundaries.

  • Carbon Footprint Initiative— The mission of the Carbon Footprint Initiative is to establish NEMA as a leader in addressing the potential carbon impacts of products in the electrical industry.

  • Low Voltage DC Power and Medium Energy Storage—The purpose of the Low Voltage DC (LVDC) Power and Energy Storage program is to position NEMA in a leadership role to drive energy storage and LVDC in a direction that benefits the association’s members and helps them grow their business in these areas.

NEMA is the association of electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers, founded in 1926 and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Its member companies manufacture a diverse set of products including power transmission and distribution equipment, lighting systems, factory automation and control systems, and medical diagnostic imaging systems. Worldwide annual sales of NEMA-scope products exceed $120 billion.
