Body scanners set for November roll-out [Australia]
Body scanning equipment will be rolled out to all Australian international airports from November, despite lingering concerns about their effectiveness. The security machines, costing AU $230,000 each, produce a generic outline of the human body and reveal metal and non-metal items under clothing, unlike the unpopular and controversial scanners in the US, which can show intimate body features. They have already been trialled in Melbourne and Sydney.

Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Report - Level 1 and Level 2, DC Fast Charging, and Wireless EVSE: Global Market Analysis and Forecasts
The past 18 months have marked the transition of the plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) into full commercialization. The electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) market is naturally a product of the PEV market, so the past year has seen a major uptick in EVSE deployments. In 2012, there will be almost 45,000 public charging stations installed globally. Much of this will be the result of publicly funded infrastructure initiatives.

Senate Passes Energy Efficiency Provisions: Before the Senate left town for the November elections, two energy-efficiency amendments favorable to NEMA members were attached to a bill that passed the chamber. The provisions added to HR 4850, the Enabling Energy Saving Innovations Act, were offered by Senators Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), and Rob Portman (R-OH) and largely derived from S 1000, the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act and S 398, the Implementation of National Consensus Appliance Agreements Act. Provisions include: require the Department of Energy to develop and issue an annual best-practices report on advanced metering of energy use in federal facilities, require DOE to conduct a study on barriers to certain industrial efficiency projects, clarify the factors the Secretary of Energy must consider as part of the economic justification for standards under its energy conservation program, establish an advisory steering committee to provide recommendations to the Advanced Manufacturing Office, and require DOE to conduct a feasibility study on government-wide data centers as preparation for closing a minimum of 800 federal data centers by October 1, 2015. The House must pass this legislation before the end of the year or the bill will die. NEMA promotes energy efficiency as a central component of comprehensive U.S. energy policy.
