OSHA to Reopen Comment Period on SDOC Following TEC Meeting
Following on a May 13 U.S.-European Union Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC) meeting on “unnecessary regulatory barriers to trade,” the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will again be opening a Federal Register public comment period on a matter of fundamental concern to the U.S. electrical equipment industry. 05/19/08

U.S. National Committee Appoints Technical Advisor to IEC Nanotechnology Technical Committee
The United States National Committee to the IEC (USNC) has appointed Dr. Brent Segal, Nantero, Inc., as the new technical advisor to IEC Technical Committee No. 113, Nanotechnology standardization for electrical and electronic products and systems (IEC TC 113), or “nano-electrotechnology.” 05/19/08

Shaw and Westinghouse Sign Landmark EPC Contract for New Nuclear Power Generation
The Shaw Group Inc. Nuclear Division and Westinghouse Electric Company, its AP1000™ nuclear power plant consortium partner, have been awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract by Georgia Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company, for two Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear power units and related facilities. 15/05/08

ABB, a leading power and automation technology company, has received an order for an Integrated Distribution SCADA system from CPS Energy of San Antonio, TX. Eaton Corporation Sells 207 Hybrid Power Systems for Guangzhou City Bus Fleet
Guangzhou Armada Development Corporation, Guangzhou Yiqi Bus Co., Ltd and diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation formally agreed upon the purchase of 207 diesel-electric hybrid power systems to be installed in new buses for operation in the city of Guangzhou. 08/05/08

CFL Index Shines as Incandescent Index Wanes
NEMA’s Incandescent Lamp Index increased 0.7 percent for the first quarter of 2008, ending a spate of declines beginning in the second quarter of 2007. Despite the modest quarterly increase, the index fell 24.5 percent on a year-over-year basis. 15/05/08

Modest Rebound for the Lighting Systems Index in First Quarter of 2008
NEMA’s Lighting Systems Index increased 1.1 percent during the first quarter of 2008. Still, the U.S. lighting market remained in a broader slump for the second straight quarter, and the index was down more than 5 percent from its year-ago level. 14/05/08

Demand for Motors Edges Higher in First Quarter of 2008
NEMA’s Motors Shipments Index increased 5.2 percent during the first quarter of 2008, nearly reversing a 7.2 percent slide in the final three months of 2007. Nonetheless, the index is still 4.3 percent off its year-ago level and has been on a downward trend since early 2006. 09 /05/08

Demand for Industrial Controls Takes a Hit During the First Quarter of 2008 NEMA’s Primary Industrial Controls Index reversed nearly all of its prior period’s gains during the first quarter of 2008 as the index contracted 5.9 percent after a downwardly revised 6.8 percent increase in the fourth quarter of 2007. 08/05/008
