The National Electrical Manufacturers Association applauds the House of Representatives for its passage yesterday by a vote of 417-11 of the "Pro-Intellectual Property Act" (HR-4279).

"As with the Stop Counterfeiting in Manufactured Goods Act passed in 2006, we have played a strong role in the development of this important new bill, which would further strengthen enforcement of intellectual property rights, as well as enhance criminal penalties when counterfeit products are defective and cause harm," said NEMA President and CEO Evan Gaddis.  "This bill also builds well on the Administration's three-year-old Strategy Targeting Organized Piracy (STOP) initiative by improving the coordination of federal government resources.  We thank the bill's sponsor, Judiciary Committee Chairman Conyers, as well as the 19 co-sponsors from both parties, for their leadership on this matter, and now look forward to continuing our work with the Senate as it formally takes up IPR enforcement legislation."

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association is the trade association of choice for the electrical manufacturing industry. Founded in 1926 and headquartered in Rosslyn, Virginia, its 430 member companies manufacture products used in the generation, transmission and distribution, control, and use of electricity. These products are used in utility, medical, industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential applications. Domestic production of electrical products sold worldwide exceeds $120 billion.
