(ROSSLYN, VA) - Confidence in current business conditions expanded modestly in all four regions this month, with the Asia/Pacific index’s nearly six point improvement to 55.8 marking the greatest change from November. The Europe index expanded by less than one point and remains below the growth threshold at 46.9. North America and Latin America also broadened by less than one point, but both indexes remain solidly above the growth threshold at 62.1 and 60.0 points, respectively.

Changes in the future confidence indexes were also largely subdued, with the notable exception of Europe, which expanded by seven points to land squarely on the growth threshold value of 50.0. Already bullish expectations for business conditions in North America and Asia/Pacific became more so by approximately two and one-half points as the indexes reached 79.3 and 62.5 points, respectively, in December. Meanwhile the breadth of confidence in business conditions six months out in Latin America improved by just over one point to 76.3.

The Electroindustry Business Confidence Index indices gauge the business confidence of the electroindustry in Asia, Europe, North America, and Latin America, and are based on the results of a monthly survey of senior managers at NEMA member companies. Those companies represent more than 80 percent of the electroindustry.
