Cooper Power Systems announced that it has been selected by EnergyUnited of Statesville, North Carolina to deploy its Cannon power line carrier (PLC) advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) network throughout the electricity provider’s diverse service territory.

The infrastructure and its more than 120,000 electric endpoints stretched across the 19 North Carolina counties served by EnergyUnited will be designed to provide AMI, Demand Response, and Smart Grid functionality. Deployment of the system will begin immediately and will be completed over the next three years.

“EnergyUnited selected the Cooper AMI solution because it matched our goal of providing our members with customer satisfaction, operational efficiencies, and service reliability,” remarked Kathleen Hart, chief information officer of EnergyUnited. “After extensive evaluation, it was clear that the Cooper Power Systems vision of the future paralleled that of EnergyUnited. Its AMI solution will provide us with the advanced automation tools and the flexibility we’ll need to operate efficiently over the coming decades.”

“We are excited to get started on this project and look forward to providing automation solutions to EnergyUnited for years to come,” stated Cooper Power Systems Group President, Mike Stoessl. “Being selected by this leading energy services cooperative is yet another confirmation of the strength of Cooper Power Systems.”

More than 200 electric cooperatives throughout North America now use the Cooper Power Systems AMI solution and the company’s Yukon Platform.
