ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won a $25-million order from Anglo Platinum for equipment and services to help more than double production at a processing plant in South Africa.
ABB will deliver two gearless mill drive systems to help run the ore-grinding equipment at Anglo Platinum’s mill in Mokopane, about 280 kilometers north-east of Johannesburg. Anglo Platinum is the largest primary producer of platinum, accounting for about 38 percent of the world’s production.
“Innovative ABB technologies like our gearless mill drive systems, combined with our industry knowledge and experience, significantly improve productivity and process reliability for our minerals and mining customers,” said Veli-Matti Reinikkala, head of ABB’s process automation division.
