Agfa HealthCare recently announced that VirtuRad, a leading systems integrator and value added reseller of digital radiography equipment and services in the orthopaedic market in the United States, has signed an agreement with Agfa HealthCare to sell Agfa’s orthopaedic line of Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), expanding the relationship beyond the current sale and support of Agfa’s Computed Radiography (CR) systems.

With the agreement, VirtuRad will expand its commitment to sell Agfa's complete line of Orthopaedic imaging solutions, including Agfa's CR, Orthopaedic pre-surgical planning tools, and IMPAX™ PACS systems, making them the PACS and CR systems of choice at VirtuRad. VirtuRad and Agfa collaborated previously in the installation of Agfa's IMPAX 6.0 for Orthopaedics solution at Greenville Hospital System (GHS) and its sports medicine partner, Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, a nationally renowned leader in sports injury diagnosis and treatment.

"We are extremely enthusiastic about our expanded relationship with Agfa," said Chairman and CEO of VirtuRad, Inc., Dr. Hirsch Handmaker. "We have long recognized Agfa HealthCare's leadership position and superior products and technology in the diagnostic imaging field. The new alliance, combined with VirtuRad's relationships and reputation in the outpatient orthopaedic and sports medicine market will provide a comprehensive and forward looking solution for physicians and their patients."

Agfa's CR systems are known for their compact footprints and easy accessibility leading to a reduction in image review times and maximized productivity. The latest version of Agfa's PACS, IMPAX 6.0, is a web-deployable image management solution that, along with Agfa's orthopaedic pre-surgical planning tools, helps streamline enterprise workflow and deliver increased efficiencies in orthopaedic and other healthcare institutions.
