Philips Medical Systems, a division of Royal Philips Electronics, has appointed Brent Shafer as executive vice president and chief executive officer, sales and service region for North America, reporting directly to Jouko Karvinen, Philips Medical Systems president and chief executive officer. Shafer will help capitalize on the company’s breadth of products and technologies to continue growth and increase overall market share.

“Brent’s more than 20 years of leadership experience in the medical industry make him ideally suited to help lead Philips Medical Systems as it continues to grow market share in the U.S.,” said Karvinen. “We will look to Brent to guide our North American sales and service organization, and to deliver to our customers fully integrated medical technologies and services designed around their needs. I am confident that he will significantly contribute to our business performance and long-term success.”

Most recently, Shafer was vice president and general manager, patient environment division at HILL-ROM, Inc., a company that helps healthcare professionals safely deliver effective and efficient care to their patients in acute care, long-term care, and home care environments.

Shafer began his career with Johnson & Johnson and later worked for Hewlett-Packard Medical Products Group in several key sales management positions. In 1996, Shafer joined GE Medical Systems, where he held various sales, marketing, and general management positions, including in X-ray and cardiology.
