Siemens Medical Solutions has announced a five-year, exclusive alliance with Fairview-University Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the largest of seven hospitals owned by Fairview Health Services. The alliance currently includes deployment of the latest in diagnostic imaging solutions and makes Siemens the sole imaging technology provider for the facility.
The alliance will allow physicians at Fairview-University Medical Center access to advanced imaging solutions from Siemens, including equipment for magnetic resonance (MR), computed tomography (CT), angiography, positron emission tomography/computed tomography system (PET/CT), and ultrasound.
"The University of Minnesota's Department of Radiology has had a long-standing research relationship with Siemens and looks forward to this alliance on the clinical side," said Dr. Charles Dietz, department chair.
In addition, Siemens will collaborate with the staff on education programs focused on individual imaging modalities. Siemens and Fairview-University Medical Center also are in discussions to develop a service agreement to cover all imaging equipment at the facility.
"Fairview, the Department of Radiology at the University of Minnesota, and Siemens hold three similar goals—patient care, education, and research—and it is therefore ideal for us to partner with such an organization," said Tom McCausland, president, Siemens Medical Solutions USA. "Through our alliance with Fairview-University Medical Center, they will be able to deliver increased diagnostic capabilities to patients in this area. This is the first stage of this alliance, and we look forward to working with the highly respected staff through the education programs and helping to grow the reputation of the organization throughout its community."
