NEMA's Wire and Cable Committee, part of the Environment, Health and Safety Council, informs and advises
Wire and Cable Division member companies about existing and impending government environment, health, and safety (EHS) policies, laws, and regulations that affect the Wire and Cable community.
Committee goals are to:
- Inform and advise the Wire and Cable (W&C) division member companies about existing and impending government environmental, health and safety (EHS) policies, laws & regulations that affect the W&C industry.
- Provide leadership for Division actions with respect to EHS matters in dealing with federal, state and international governments.
- Represent and be the “voice” of the W&C industry before federal, state, and international agencies.
- Similarly represent the W&C industry concerns before all standards making and non government bodies that are addressing EHS issues of real or potential concern to the W&C industry.
- Provide a vehicle for exchanging, sharing, and communicating EHS programs, information and loss control methods among member companies.
Strategies:
- Actively participate in the federal, state and international governmental rule-making process to ensure that laws and regulations reflect industry concerns.
- Assume an active role on EHS matters before all standards making and non government bodies.
- Define and pursue all industry EHS positions on all pertinent documents affecting W&C products.
- Promote the dissemination of EHS programs, information and methods among W&C member companies.
These strategies are executed by:
- Monitoring all EHS activities impacting the W&C industry, identifying key trends and issues, and periodically report pertinent issues to the membership
- Keeping abreast of the rule-making schedule and identify the issues to be addressed; formulate a consensus position with interested parties, associations and industries.
- Ensuring NEMA company representatives participate in public dialog on EHS issues, and provide input on changes that affect W&C products and production facilities.
- Issuing timely and technically sound industry views on key EHS issues.
