TO: NEMA Energy Solutions Mailing List
FROM: Malcolm E. O’Hagan, NEMA President
SUBJECT: President Bush’s May 12 Radio Address
You will find below a hyperlink to the text of President Bush’s Saturday radio address to the nation, which focused on energy. As you will see, his message calls for broad use of products that help Americans use energy more efficiently. He mentions lighting controls and transmission cables, specifically, but we all know that NEMA members have many technology solutions to our nation’s energy problems. We were happy to see that NEMA’s efforts to influence the President’s energy policy are bearing fruit.
NEMA is engaged in California, on Capitol Hill, and elsewhere delivering a simple but critically important message to policy makers: NEMA members have the technology solutions to today’s and tomorrow’s energy problems. On Thursday, President Bush will release the administration’s energy plan. NEMA will e-mail you a press release commenting on the plan on Thursday morning and will follow-up in the afternoon with an analysis of the plan’s impact on NEMA member products.
Starting Friday, NEMA will be e-mailing you a weekly Energy Update. It will provide up-to-date information on issues and actions affecting our domestic energy policies and our energy supply. It will give you information you can use to help make business decisions about your products and your manufacturing processes.
You will likely see mention of the Alliance for Energy and Economic Growth in the media in the near future. This is a broad coalition of 350 organizations around the country working to promote policies for a secure energy future. The coalition has a steering committee composed of 30 of the 350 member organizations. NEMA sits on that steering committee and on the advocacy subcommittee of the coalition.
Energy supply, conservation, and quality are assuming more importance as each week passes. NEMA members have the technology solutions. We are pleased to provide you with important new member services related to the supply and quality of electrical energy. If you have comments or questions, you can email energy@nema.org and one of the NEMA staff specialists will respond.
