In a greatly simplified view, the NEMA TS 2 standardizes three major things for a traffic controller. First, environmentals (i.e., temperature, shock, etc.). Secondly, traffic control features and methodology (i.e,. phases, rings, safety, etc.). Finally, cabinet interface (i.e., A, B, C connectors and BIU SDLC interface).
