Itron received the Best Quality Company Award from the South African Department of Trade & Industry (DTI), the firm said, recognizing the firm's dedication to quality assurance and responsible management practices while conducting its business activities in South Africa, said the firm.
DTI aims to promote and encourage the use and the adoption of effective quality management methodologies. Itron runs a manufacturing plant in Atlantis near Cape Town, specialized in the production of smart payment meters, said the firm, and its production process is controlled by a system with various tests at different stages.
Also, its metrology (measurement science) lab has engineers and metrologists working closely with standard organizations such as the South African Bureau of Standards, the Kenya Bureau of Standards and National Measurement Institute, to ensure adherence to the latest local, regional and international standards, said Itron. The factory is listed as an ISO9001:2008 plant, satisfying the requirements of the ISO900 family standards related to quality management systems.
