The President of the United States traveled to Durham, NC on June 14, 2011 to meet with his Jobs and Competitiveness Council at the corporate and U.S. manufacturing headquarters of Cree, a leading manufacturer of energy efficient LED lighting. The President toured Crees manufacturing facility and highlighted Cree as an example of leading the clean energy revolution as well as the comeback in American manufacturing.

As part of his effort to strengthen the manufacturing sector and better enable the US workforce to succeed in a competitive global economy, President Obama announced a major expansion of Skills for Americas Future. New commitments from the private sector, community colleges and the National Association of Manufacturers will provide the opportunity for 500,000 community college students to get industry-accepted credentials for manufacturing jobs.
